Production of base petrochemicals in Iran and regional countries

Horizontal and vertical development of the petrochemical industry value chain requires production and use of basic products. Methanol, ammonia, olefins (ethylene, propylene, butadiene) and aromatics (benzene, toluene and para-xylene) are the main basic products. In the calendar year of 1399 which ended on March 20 2021, with a production capacity of 30 million tons of basic products, Iran ranked second in the region shortly after Saudi Arabia and has a 35% share in the world. The production capacity of basic products in 2020 in China, the United States and Saudi Arabia was 260, 104 and 44 million tons per year, respectively.
